Literature Text

There is a red wall, cold, heavy, and still.  It separates us from the outside, the throng of anxious people all waiting for the wall to separate so that we can be presented to them.  All behind the wall feel tension in our inevitable fate.  Each word we speak is hushed yet echoes in the still air, as though our words are still carefree and worryless.  The queen next to my trunk paces the floor, her feet making muted clicks from her heels.  Such is the electricity of the room that the quietness is unsettling.  The knight stands next to the red wall, his shining armor seemingly out of place in the dim room.  The helmet of his silver armor is under his left arm as he uses his right hand to cup his ear in an attempt to amplify the stirring crowd outside.  I know he will hear nothing but the buzz as if a hive of angry bees were waiting.  His face has an appearance as calm as an ocean breeze, but the lack of color in his face is not attributed to powder and his rigid stance not because of his outfit.  In walks a new man, walking with quick, small steps.  He wears black pants and a black top.  He is not nervous but adds a different temperament to the charged room, it is of impatience and bothered anger.  He tells us to prepare for the outside, his words so different from the ones we speak in this space.  The queen stops pacing and takes a deep breath of air, in and slowly out.  The knight puts on his helmet to hide his bloodless face, and I slip on my shoes.  The others, a dog, the king, a jester, a princess, and a merchant all rise to stand in front of the wall.  We all wait with shared tension for our exposure to the judging eyes of those out there and the burning light above.  The wall in front splits down the middle and moves away from the other half.  We are all hit at once with a wave of too loud music, burning brightness and a now hushed expectant crowd, but we stand strong, banishing fright.  Together against the mass of people, we hide our nerves and replace them with thousand watt smiles.  Then the first words on the outside, exposed, under judging eyes are spoken.
"We are so glad you could join us for the show tonight..."
A real quick piece for you! I finally figured out how to submit literature. It's really not my best work at all but if you all like it i maybe will submit more. I have never been in a play but I tried to imagine the tension and nerves that must pierce the hearts of every person involved, the building up of fright in the chest, and I can't imagine how these feelings are banished.
Let me know what you think!
